FLU VACCINATION PROGRAM

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, vaccination against the flu has long been accepted as a safe and effective way to prevent millions of illnesses and thousands of related doctor and hospital visits every year. In recent years, flu vaccines have reduced the risk of flu associated hospitalizations among older adults by about 40% on average.

To support the health and well-being of UCI students, faculty, and staff, as well as our local community, UCI recommends that campus co-workers follow vaccine recommendations adopted by the California Department of Public Health. Campus co-workers who do not work in a healthcare setting are not required to receive or decline the flu vaccine. Campus healthcare workers and UCI Health co-workers must submit proof of or decline the flu vaccine by December 4, 2026.

What do I need to do to be compliant?

If you are not a healthcare worker, no action is needed.

If you are a campus healthcare worker or UCI Health co-worker, you must do one of the following by December 4, 2026:

• Receive the flu vaccine from UCI Occupational Health
• Receive the flu vaccine outside of UCI Occupational Health and submit proof of vaccination through the Occupational Health portal
• Decline the flu vaccine through the Occupational Health Portal
